“The good-to-great leaders never wanted to become larger-than-life heroes. They never aspired to be put on a pedestal or become unreachable icons. They were seemingly ordinary people quietly producing extraordinary results.” – Jim Collins, Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap… and Others Don’t
At Delta Phi Lambda we believe that all have the potential to be great leaders because we all carry with us our own spheres of influence. Our job as an organization is to help each member discover their own leadership style and harness that power for good. You don’t need a title to be a leader because you lead by example with every single person you encounter on a daily basis.
As such we encourage all our members to attend a leadership conference in the spring and provide more leadership development and training at our annual Convention. The Delta Phi Lambda Foundation provides scholarships to members who wish to attend the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values Central Conference.
In the spring of 2011, Delta Phi Lambda partnered with the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values (AFLV) to host our Midyear Leadership Conference in conjunction with AFLV Central. The speakers and education provided at this undergraduate conference are unmatched, and our National Board and Headquarters Staff works in tandem with the conference staff to ensure a smooth schedule for our sisters. Activities include, but are not limited to, personality type tests and the Leadership Practice Inventory. These skills are not only helpful to succeed as a chapter and an undergraduate student, but are also transferable so that they will be successful later in life in their professional endeavors. Often times, students travel with their school delegations and Berkeley is known for always sending a strong delegation to AFLV West. Delta Phi Lambda believes in leadership as a process and puts measures into place so that all sisters participate in the leadership process and are able to develop, mature and flourish in all that they do. Through our involvement with the National APIA Panhellenic Association and the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors, we are nationally recognized for our leadership in facilitating key discussions that affect our communities.
During our National Convention undergraduates engage in leadership development and team building workshops while fostering our everlasting sisterhood. Recognizing that first and foremost our sisters are students in institutions to learn, graduate, and procure employment, members and chapters who go beyond what is expected of them are given acknowledgement through our annual Convention Awards. Here we also award academic and leadership scholarships to help offset the costs of tuition/books and registration at leadership conferences such as AFLV and the Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute. Please refer to our Convention section to find out more.
