What is a sorority?
A sorority is a sisterhood. It is a diverse group of women who work and interact closely with one another to achieve a common goal. Through sorority membership, you are able to make lifelong friends, develop leadership abilities, serve national philanthropies and local community service projects, become involved in campus organizations, develop your scholastic abilities, and most importantly, achieve your own individual goals with confidence.
What do sororities have to offer?
A sorority can help personalize your college experience by offering a scholastic support system; the opportunity to give back to the community through service projects; and close friends who will cheer you on through successes and provide support when times are tough.
- Academic Excellence - Scholarship is the most important aspect of college life. Delta Phi Lambda strives for high academic achievement and have well-organized scholarship programs to assist every member to achieve her academic potential. Academic excellence is encouraged by providing incentives, study partners, designated study hours, and tutoring programs designed for the needs of each chapter member. No matter what your field of study, you will find Sisters who will provide you with support and encouragement to excel. Minimum grade point averages are enforced in each chapter for joining, initiation, and maintenance of good standing.
- Leadership – Delta Phi Lambda is dedicated to building future leaders by providing vast opportunities for leadership development. Chapters are largely self-governed and call on their member's special talents to coordinate every aspect of sorority operation. Delta Phi Lambda encourages all members to become involved not only in chapter leadership roles, but also in positions in other campus organizations, professional organizations, academic and service honoraries, and many other service activities. Sisters actively participate in almost every aspect of campus life, enhancing their leadership skills and personal development.
- Philanthropy – Philanthropy and community service are another important aspects of Delta Phi Lambda. Service projects help build an understanding of the world around us. Delta Phi Lambda has been recognized for the hard work and dedication to national charities, local human service agencies, and the University community. Each year Delta Phi Lambda contributes hundreds of dollars and countless hours of service to these philanthropies. A sense of accomplishment and satisfaction from working together to help others is an invaluable feeling, and the opportunity to give can be your most rewarding experience as a Sister of Delta Phi Lambda.
- Activities – Delta Phi Lambda provides their members with a wide range of social events, including socials, formals, retreats, Sisterhood activities, national events and alumnae gatherings. The friendships you build from the variety of social functions are memorable and priceless.
